BancorpSouth Investment Services, Inc., the investment brokerage division of BancorpSouth Bank, has established an investment advisory service, which has been registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). BancorpSouth Investment Services President, Alan Leach, said the SEC's approval is based upon established standards relating to volume of assets under management, operating policies, professional management and staffing.
"When we began our broker/dealer operations some eighteen months ago, we initially registered with the state of Mississippi as investment advisors," Leach stated. "From the beginning, we intended to seek SEC registration of our services as a Registered Investment Advisor. Now, with the growth we've experienced, this has become a reality." Leach said this designation will allow BancorpSouth Investment Services, Inc. to manage its clients' assets under a fee-based arrangement where no transaction fees are charged, as opposed to the traditional brokerage account where transactions are the basis for all charges. "Recognition of our own Registered Investment Advisory allows us to offer yet another level of service to our clients," Leach said.
BancorpSouth Investment Services provides both full service and discount brokerage services for clients in addition to providing investment management services for individuals, corporations, foundations, associations and governmental units including a wide variety of city, county and state authorities. BancorpSouth Investment Services has offices in Jackson, Tupelo, Hattiesburg, Gulfport, Booneville and Starkville, Miss., Memphis and Jackson, Tenn., and Guntersville, Ala. Offices will be opening soon in El Dorado, Ft. Smith, Magnolia and Hope, Ark.
