BancorpSouth Launches Tax Credit Department

TUPELO, Miss., Oct. 15, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- BancorpSouth Bank (NYSE: BXS) will establish a tax credit investment department, with seasoned banker Will Shurtleff at the helm, to enhance and support programs for the revitalization of neighborhoods across its eight-state footprint.

Shurtleff was recently hired to serve as first vice president and tax credit manager. He will add valuable leadership and experience in identifying investment opportunities for projects designed to make a significant impact on low- to moderate-income communities by providing innovative financing solutions for a variety of initiatives, such as community facilities, health care facilities and non-real estate projects.

Shurtleff has 14 years of banking experience, most recently serving as first vice president and tax credit administrator for a Jackson, Miss.-based regional bank, where he helped the company tap into investment opportunities for a variety of programs, including New Markets Tax Credits, Low-Income Housing Tax Credits and Historic Tax Credits, as part of its Community Reinvestment Act and economic development activities.

Shurtleff earned bachelor's and master's degrees from Mississippi College in Clinton. He is also a graduate of the Mississippi School of Banking in Oxford.
