BancorpSouth, Inc. Increases Quarterly Dividend

At their regular quarterly meeting on October 25, 2000, the Board of Directors of BancorpSouth, Inc., declared a quarterly cash dividend of $0.14 per common share, an increase of 7.7% in the previous $0.13 per share quarterly amount paid on the Company's common stock. The dividend is payable January 2, 2001 to shareholders of record at the close of business on December 15, 2000.

BancorpSouth previously reported 2000 third quarter earnings, excluding merger related and other special charges, of $21.1 million and diluted earnings per share of $0.25, respectively. Earnings for the third quarter of 2000 inclusive of all charges were $9.5 million or $0.11 per diluted share.

BancorpSouth provides consumer and commercial banking services through a branch banking network in Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee and Texas. The company also provides investment and insurance services though the bank's subsidiaries, BancorpSouth Investment Services, Inc. and BancorpSouth Insurance Services, Inc.
